Taking a look back at another week of news and headlines from Cupertino, this week’s Apple Loop includes the iPhone 14’s missing notch, iPhone 13 production is paused, the five new Macs for 2022, the mysterious MacBook Pro, ninth generation iPad review, your iPhone repair log, and the new name for macOS.

Apple Loop is here to remind you of a few of the very many discussions that have happened around Apple over the last seven days (and you can read my weekly digest of Android news here on Forbes).

Since its introduction with the iPhone X, “the notch” has become one of the key points of differentiation. It’s even available for your MacBook now! Apple looks set to remove the notch from the iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max when they launch next year, and it’s calling on Samsung to help

“Samsung Display will be one of the main suppliers of OLED panels for the iPhone 14 Pro models. The company has reportedly acquired new manufacturing equipment to make OLED panels for next year’s iPhones with a punch hole.

“Samsung is no stranger to punch hole display panels. The Galaxy S10 was its first flagship series to feature this display technology. Samsung Display can easily supply such panels at scale to Apple, allowing the company to realize one of its biggest design changes for the iPhone yet.”

iPhone 13 Production Paused

With parts in short supply and China’s ongoing power restrictions, Apple has solved the dilemma of how to keep the iPhone 13 production lines has been answered. Apple has temporarily halted production. While a temporary move due to overriding issues, it serves to show the strain that all manufacturers are under:

“One supply chain manager tells Nikkei “Due to limited components and chips, it made no sense to work overtime on holidays and give extra pay for front-line workers […] That has never happened before. The Chinese golden holiday in the past was always the most hustling time when all of the assemblers were gearing up for production.”
